Organising a new marketing staff members workload

Hi everyone,

Hope some of you can help me prioritise the workload for a new member of staff we are intending on taking on. Currently our marketing activities consist mainly of a weekly eshot of current products / offers to existing customers – products are consumer computer media and plastic case products such as PS3, xbox, Wii etc.. replacement cases and recordable DVD / Bluray. This activity brings in a nice steady business (30%) along with the traffic we get from the natural search engine listings (70% of business). We seem to have reached a steady traffic flow on our site without much growth in the last 6 months – OK its summer and there is a recession so perhaps I should be more than happy.

However I firmly believe now is the time to market the business harder and want to take on a new member of staff purely for web marketing to increase our traffic, SE positions and ultimately our sales as a result.

So based on the fact that our only current marketing activities consist of eshots and tweaking of pages and content for SEO purposes – what do you think the best use of a new member of staff purely concentrating on web marketing would be and their suggested tasks / workload to give me the best value for money and more importantly long term business growth.

All help and suggestions greatfully recieved.
